On February 25, 2021, Hon. Jose Abelardo Mai, Minister of Agriculture, Food Security and Enterprise visited the Central Farm Research and Innovation Station.
Ina Sanchez, manager at the Central Farm Research and Innovation Center, shared that Central Farm started as a center for rehabilitation of ex-servicemen on October 20, 1948. Later it was changed to an experimental agriculture station. Over the years, the station has developed into a centralized agricultural research station compromising five main sections: livestock, crops, research and development, agro-processing, and agricultural engineering.
Minister Mai was impressed with the scale and quality of the commodities being produced and researched at the station. He had a lively discussion with the staff on various ways to engage farmers in the new technologies and ideas being offered by the station. He committed to ensuring the Ministry continues to invest in human and material resources with an emphasis on helping small farmers and producers.
The Minister was accompanied by Servulo Baeza, CEO in the Ministry; Digno Polanco, Senior Technical Advisor; and other personnel from the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security and Enterprise. The Minister’s tour is part of an ongoing familiarization with the different departments within the Ministry.
