Collective Bargaining Agreement Signed Between Belize Electricity Limited and Belize Energy Workers Union

The Belize Electricity Limited (BEL) and the Belize Energy Workers Union (BEWU) this morning signed a Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) for 140 employees for a four-year period. The signing ceremony took place in Belmopan at the head office of the Ministry of Rural Transformation, Community Development, Labour and Local Government.
The agreement seeks to create an environment of trust and openness, where management and employees will collaborate to ensure the safety of employees, the company’s property, and the public. The Union and the management of BEL negotiated provisions and solutions that balanced the interests of both parties.
The Hon. Oscar Requena, Minister of Rural Transformation, Community Development, Labour and Local Government, congratulated BEL and the BEWU for the timeliness with which the CBA was concluded and the spirit of teamwork that prevailed throughout the negotiations. The Minister further noted that the agreement will serve to maximize the productivity of the employees through harmonious industrial relations.

The Ministry continues to work closely with employers and employees throughout the country to promote good industrial relations, fairness, impartiality, and tripartism for mutual benefit of all.
