Share

On Friday, November 20th, The Caribbean Villas Hotel in San Pedro Town was the venue for Bahia Fest, a high end fashion show sponsored and hosted by Mujer Total, a Mexican based Magazine dedicated to women. Original fall and winter designs were showcased along the runway before an adoring audience of fashionistas. The charity event included an admission fee from which part of the proceeds would benefit Ambergris Caye Camp Starfish. Camp Starfish is an organization dedicated to helping special needs children on the island via an annual camp, with volunteers from all over the world, including physical therapists, speech therapists among other professionals.Bahia Fashion Show-21
The international fashion show started shortly after 7PM with the first of three segments. Belizean and Mexican models began gracing the runway featuring ‘La Maria” clothing line, by designer Maria Perez. This line was inspired by Mexican traditional culture. The different pieces portrayed the works of different designers and artists on cotton, linens, silk, canvas and leather. The collection is very limited, but they were beautifully crafted and stunningly handmade.Bahia Fashion Show-17
Following the first segment, a special young lady from Camp Starfish, Dayanara Manzano, delighted the crowd by singing Juan Gabriel’s ‘Asi Fue’ song.Bahia Fashion Show-12
Immediately after the musical performance, the second line of collection entitled ‘In Love’ by Mexican designer Guillermo Perez graced the runway. The different outfits were inspired by chocolate, caramel and sugar, and the 31 dresses were created in classical colors: black, red, white, aquamarine and purple, with hints of chocolate. The line exuded joy via their unique design, and certainly any island woman would feel elegant wearing one.Bahia Fashion Show-24

Closing the show was the sensational collection from Mexican designer Martin Lopez, entitled “Madonna’. According to Lopez, he is a huge fan of the singer Madonna and always dreamed of doing a tribute to her in a fashion show. He also dreamed of visiting ‘La Isla Bonita’ and was very happy that it came true. The show began with models portraying different Madonna themes. There was rhythm, dancing, romance and even a wedding theme. The designer commented that even though the clothing was inspired by Madonna and her music, they can be worn like any other line of clothing. Lopez looks forward to working with island boutiques to offer his line of collection to the residents of La Isla Bonita.
Representatives from Mujer Total look forward to making the event happen again; they deemed it a great success.Bahia Fashion Show-26

Additionally, they would like to thank Mrs. Barbara and The Candle Garden for all their hard work in making the event possible.

Organizers thank the Caribbean Villas, the hardworking staff at Amber Bar and Grill, the media, photographers, models, The San Pedro Town Council, Deputy Mayor Gary Greif, Councilors Hector “Tito” Alamilla, Flora Ancona, all the individuals and businesses who donated items for the raffle, Mrs Agota, Mrs. Lizzie, volunteers from Projects Abroad and everyone else who contributed for the show.
