Dear Editor,
I own land near the Hol Chan Resort, south of San Pedro. Recently, when I decided to build a home on one of my lots, I was required to submit the building plans to the appropriate SPTC department for approval. I was happy to comply as I understand how important land use oversight is to an island dependent on tourism, particularly eco-tourism.
Over the past week or so, another south island land owner has bull dozed acres of land, destroying considerable native vegetation (save for a few palm trees) and displacing a lot of wildlife. I just wondered if there was land use oversight provided here, as well? Is the land that is being bull dozed part of a development plan that has already been approved? Or, is the land to remain looking like a war zone and possibly being used as a trash dump site like similar land this owner bull dozed across from the water treatment plant?
/S/
