The Actun Tunichil Muknal (ATM/Cave of the Stone Sepulchre) offers visitors the mystery and adventure they seek, while showing glimpses of Belize’s rich Mayan history with burial chambers containing calcified remains, ceremonial vessels and other cultural artifacts left behind centuries ago. Passage through this cave is known to only a few select guides, who have permission from the Belize Department of Archeology to take visitors to this special cave. To this day, nearly all of the cultural artifacts have remained in place as they were originally found in 1989.
Now, adding to the intrigue, National Geographic has named ATM (as it is known locally), to its list of Top Ten Sacred Caves in the world! This is certainly an honor, and a nod to the rich Maya history that Belize is so proud of. Read the rest of the article here.
