After a two-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the creative and cheerful Christmas show was back at The Island Academy (TIA). On Wednesday, December 14th, at their new home in Mahogany Bay Village south of San Pedro Town, the Christmas pageant saw junior and senior students performing a well-put-together show delighting parents and friends in attendance.
TIA’s founder Lady Dixie Bowen and her team of teachers and organizers welcomed everyone to another memorable show. The anticipated program, held under the titled “December ‘round the World’ an International Holiday Celebration,” featured the special preparations for Chinese New Year, Germany’s St. Nicholas Day tradition of a pickle in the Tannenbaum, the seven principles of Kwanzaa from African ancestors, and the miracle and lights of Jewish Hanukkah. The event also included the festive atmosphere of Mexico’s Las Posadas and ended with Christmas American style.
The show started with the junior students and Infant One taking to the stage and performing dances and lovely Christmas carols such as December ‘Round the World. After that, other students in the upper classes performed La Pinata in an elaborate and fun presentation. Without any intermissions, the show continued with another group of students interpreting the tradition of the Chinese New Year or Gung Hay Fat Choy dressed in oriental outfits.
Next on stage was the drama and musical of the Pickle in the Tannenbaum, followed by dancing and singing of the song Jump at the Sun. As the show winded down, a group of students dressed in white lit up the stage with the song Miracle of Lights.
As the audience continued cheering after every performance, the last group of students delighted everyone with December in America. To wrap up the show, the entire student body, Lady Bowen, and teachers stood on stage and sang the classic ‘Feliz Navidad.’
Lady Bowen thanked the students and teachers for the grand presentation and the audience for supporting the Christmas Pageant. Afterward, everyone was invited to stay and mingle while enjoying food and refreshments.
