Dia de San Pedro’s festivities included the fourth annual karaoke contest held at the old football field, as well as dance presentations and a bright fireworks display. MC for the evening was the magnanimous Eiden Salazar Jr., who called on Mayor Daniel Guerrero, Minister of Tourism and Area Representative Manuel Heredia Jr., and finally, special guest speaker of the evening, Mrs. Wilema Gonzalez.
After the official opening ceremonies, it was time for the audience to be entertained by a wide variety of dances, ranging from contemporary to traditional, with a bit of modern and even a little rock and roll. As always, the San Pedro Dance Company outdid themselves with dancers as young as three through teens performing their hearts out.
After the last dance, MC Eiden called the attention of those in attendance to face the lagoon side of the field, where fireworks had been prepared for blast off. As the brilliant colors shone in the dark side, everyone oohed and aahhed, enjoying the splendid display.
The fireworks were followed by the fourth annual Karaoke contest, with twelve singers up for the grand prize of $800. Second place would take $500 and third place, $300. After the first round of singing, there were only five singers who battled it out with their vocal interpretations of popular songs. In the end, it was decided that Gina Cadle took third place, while Claudia Handal took second, and Dia de San Pedro Karaoke Champion for 2012 was Luis Albeño.
Rounding off the night of festivities was the ever energetic Rompe Raja band, which played till the wee hours of the morning.
