Doctor Love: Children and Pets

Dear Doctor Love,
My fiancé and I are in a disagreement. We met two years ago when she was here on vacation and last year she moved down here. We are in our mid-twenties and we get along well together. She has a three year old son and has gone through a lot to nurture and keep her child with no one’s help. Now, she says she does not want to raise any more. She wants to have her tubes tied.
I don’t think we should shut out the possibility of having children. I can easily see myself wanting to add to the family when we are better off financially. She is sticking to what she said and more and more I am seeing it as a deal breaker for marriage. Is this worth risking losing a future wife?
Help!

/s/ Getting Anxious

Dear Anxious,
It is not right for her to leave your feelings out of the mix. After all, you are half of the relationship and what you feel should count for at least half. Besides, this time she would not be raising the child alone.
On the other hand, it is her body and she will have the final say. Try to calmly talk some sense to her about this. If she does not give even an inch you might want to consider breaking it off now before you become more involved with her and her child.

Dear Doctor Love,
My best friend is accompanied everywhere by her dog. I don’t mind until they come to my house, which happens several times a week. The dog is not disciplined and will go to the bathroom in the house every chance he gets. He climbs on the couch when we go into the kitchen. I also caught him chewing on a chair. My friend laughed and said you can’t blame him, he’s only a dog.
I got new living room furniture this week and I’m worried. I don’t want to insult my friend but I need to do something. Please help.

/s/ Not A Pet Hater

Dear Pet,
Buy one of those wire cages that are made for keeping dogs in the house. Also, buy the dog a chew toy.
When your friend comes over tell her you brought them especially for her dog. Make certain she knows that the dog is not going to get near your new furniture. Be firm about it and she will fall in line.
