Dear Doctor Love,
I grew up in a house where my mom was very jealous of my father. If she heard a rumor about him she was all over him. If she did not hear a rumor sometimes she would make something up just for the drama. My dad never did anything to deserve this. I watched her make him miserable for years. I swore that I would never be jealous.
I have been married five years. My wife was the fourth girl I ever slept with. She has had a lot more experience than me. She admitted to me that she had sex with over fifteen different partners before she met me. Since then, she says that she wants only me. Every year that passes makes me a little more jealous of her. I am becoming more and more like my mom and I can’t help it. I don’t want to be this way.
Can I change? What can I do?
/s/ Mr. Jealous
Dear Mr. Jealous,
Anyone can change if they want to. It helps to have the right perspective on your problem, though. Here is your correct perspective. If she had chosen to lie to you and tell you that you were only the second or third man she had, you would probably be quite happy right now. Would you rather have her lie to you and possibly have it come out accidentally later on?
You are probably familiar with the slogan for Las Vegas that says, “What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas.” When it comes to marriage and past affairs the slogan must be, “What happened in the past stays in the past.”
Dear Doctor Love,
Is there a cure for macobi? When I was growing up people with macobi would go drink rum until they felt better. I’m not sure about the spelling of the word but I definitely know what macobi is. Because I don’t drink alcohol I have trouble dealing with it.
What can I do?
/s/ Macobi Girl
Dear Macobi Girl,
Macobi is best interpreted in English as “having the blues.” If it is bad enough and long lasting enough it might be clinical depression and should be treated by a doctor.
