A male person identified as 36 year-old Rudolph Pitts was found dead on Wednesday, September 6th shortly after 1PM in Northern Ambergris Caye. Pitts had been reported missing from the night of Tuesday, September 5th when he and another friend, 22-year-old Edgar Lopez, were reportedly assaulted by three gunmen. Lopez, who sustained gunshot injuries to the back of his head (grazed), left arm and shoulder, was later airlifted on that same night Belize City for further medical treatment. However, Pitts was not located until his lifeless body was found today.

The official report from the San Pedro Police states that on Tuesday, around 8PM, Lopez along with Pitts were walking on a back street, when three men approached them from nearby bushes and fired several shots at them. An injured Lopez managed to flee from the area, but Pitts was left behind. Lopez was transported to the Dr. Otto Rodriguez San Pedro Polyclinic where he was stabilized.
Contrary to the police report, which gave the impression that the shooting took place in downtown San Pedro, it was later revealed that the incident happened near a resort approximately 10 miles north of San Pedro Town. Other rumours are that Lopez and Pitts were sleeping, when their assailants broke into their room and attacked them.
Relatives to Pitts told The Sun that they believe he was killed by mistake as he was not known to be a trouble maker. “He was a hard working person,” said a relative.
Police continue their investigation.
