The island’s Saga Humane Society (Saga) held its annual Halloween Spooktacular party on Sunday, November 3rd at Crazy Canucks Beach Bar. The event saw island pets (mostly dogs) and even some of their owners dressed up in costumes. A few of them competed for fabulous prizes, while others won raffled prizes and enjoyed great food, drinks and live music from 11AM to 4PM.
The party serves as a fundraiser for Saga and as patrons enjoyed the day by the beach, pets mingled around. The elaborate costumes ranged from pirates to princesses to zombies to witches and even scarecrows. Pet owners also had the opportunity to participate in silent auctions and raffles as well, as they waited for the costume competition.
At 3PM, one by one, pets began their parade to the stage before three judges tasked to choose the winners. Mary Gonzalez, Ben Popik, and Estella Worthington had a hard time deciding which pets would take the top places in the different categories: Most Creative, Scariest, Funniest, Look-a-Like, and Cutest. After tallying the scores, the winners were announced.
In the Most Creative category Bella and Benjamin took first place, while Penny and Krista took second place and Louis and Carina settled for third.
In the Scariest division Kira the Zombie dog took home the first place prize. Marley as Chucky won second place and Savannah the Scarecrow came in third.
Emma was awarded first place in the Funniest category, while Dolly came in second, and third place went to Winnie.
In the Look-a-Like group, Missy and Adelina won first place. Second place went to Sage and Sterling, while Leslie with Lizzy and Livvy went home with third place.
In the last category, Cutest, Happy charmed the judges, taking home the first place. In second place was Barca, followed by Chalupa.
The Saga Humane Society thanks everyone who came out to support the event and made it another successful one.
