Derricia Castillo Salazar out on bail after arraigned for Wounding

Retired Belize Defence Force Captain Derricia Castillo Salazar avoided remandment at the Belize Central Prison after meeting a $2,000 bail following her arraignment at the San Pedro Magistrate Court today for Wounding. Salazar is accused of stabbing a female in the face during an altercation around 2AM on Sunday, August 15, at a hotel in San Pedro Town.

According to reports, the victim told police Salazar stabbed her. The victim was observed with a large stab wound on her face. The injuries were classified as Wounding, and police detained Salazar. After being charged for Wounding, Salazar was arraigned at the San Pedro Magistrate Court on Monday, August 16. She was offered a $2,000 bail, which she met. Salazar is due to return to court on October 15, 2021.

Besides her service in Belize’s military, Salazar is the co-founder and president of Our Circle (Belize), an organization dedicated to the inclusion of the LGBT community.
