One of Belize’s leading banking institutions, Atlantic Bank Limited (ABL), is celebrating its 50th anniversary this week. To commemorate the landmark, the bank hosted a special event on Monday, August 16th, in Belize City, where lucky customers walked away with fabulous giveaways, including a grand $50,000 prize.
In San Pedro Town, branch manager Karen Lopez said they treated customers with tokens of appreciation. Atlantic Bank customers also had the opportunity to spin a wheel and win prizes. Refreshments were also available for those visiting the bank. The bank’s management also saw some of their customers personally to give them a memorable gesture.
At the event in Belize City, Richard Leslie was the lucky ABL customer to win $50,000. ABL also gave away another $50,000 to 50 customers in $1,000 increments.
On August 16, 1971, ABL opened its doors with its first branch on Albert Street in Belize City. At the time, the bank employed seven people. The bank now has branches in every principal municipality of the country. All the branches of Atlantic Bank are inter-connected and allow customers to conduct banking at any branch. ATMs (Automatic Teller Machines) are available 24 hours, allowing customers to access their accounts in other countries.
The bank’s holding company, Socieda Nacional de Inversiones S.A., a Honduran company, reportedly owns 55% of the bank’s total shares. While Belizean and Honduran investors have the remaining shares.
