Following the August 10th fire in Caye Caulker, that left four families homeless, an outpour of support from the community, governmental and non-governmental groups surged. Help also came from San Pedro Town, where the San Pedro Lions Club collected an assortment of non-perishable food items, clothes, and a $1,600 cheque for the four families affected. This donation was delivered to the fire victims on Saturday, August 14th, when members the Lions Club visited La Isla Cariñosa.
President Everette Anderson and his team collected items on the 11th and 12th of August at the Lions Den on Barrier Reef Drive. They reached out to the island community for assistance to provide for the families affected by the fire on our sister island. On Friday the 13th, they packed the donations collected and traveled to the Caye Caulker following day.
On Saturday afternoon, a group of San Pedro Lions met with the fire victims on Caye Caulker and handed over the items. They thanked the Lions for their generosity and everybody who helped.
The families are also in need of construction material to build back their home. The investigation into the fire continues. One person was detained for questioning following the blaze, but no charges have been levied.
The San Pedro Lions Club thanks everyone who made donations to assist these families. The club encourages anyone to help if they can, as we can all make a difference in the life of someone struggling. Anyone able to help can contact Caye Caulker Chairlady at 615-9001.
