As the new school year approaches, the Caye Education Foundation (CEF) has committed to help seven students with their secondary education for the 2021 school year. CEF, whose purpose is to provide financial and motivational support for deserving children to attend high school in San Pedro Town, previously assisted ten students through their four-year high school education. This project is possible via fundraising and the support of generous donors.
The foundation was created in 2016 and requires students to maintain a ‘B’ average to receive scholarship assistance. CEF also provides mentorship and counseling for those who may find it hard to keep their grades up due to circumstances. The scholarship is not only financial, as students receive books and uniforms as well. The goal is for the students to graduate under CEF watch.
CEF is exceptionally proud of its past graduating scholars. They shared with The San Pedro Sun that they are glad to have met their previous ten students and become partners in their educational careers courtesy of generous donors. “It was a powerful accomplishment for the Board Members to realize our ambitions to see these kids receive their diplomas. Seven of the ten completed high school with Honor Roll status. One of them was the Valedictorian and another, the Salutatorian. What an achievement for these students who otherwise would never have had such an opportunity.”
The island organization is aware of the current world health crisis that has affected everyone’s finances. However, CEF believes they cannot allow the brilliant minds of hardworking students to go to waste for lack of funds. They are committed to finding the means needed to foster their passion for knowledge and family pride in these trailblazing young San Pedro and Belize citizens.
Donations are always welcome to continue supporting more high school students. Although many continue to face financial hardships incurred by the pandemic, anyone who can assist can contact the foundation at +501 627-8700 or visit their website www.belizecayefoundation.com and click on the section for contributions.
The foundation is hopeful others are inspired to contribute to high school and post-graduate students as they pursue advanced learning and prepare to become productive adults in our society.
