Hon. Kevin Bernard, Minister of Youth, Sports and E-Governance, and Jose Urbina, CEO in the Ministry, met with H.E. Gerardo Argote, Ambassador of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela to Belize.
As a partner in the region, Venezuela has been a good friend of Belize. In discussion were areas of development and cooperation in sports and youth between both countries.
Minister Bernard expressed, “I share my deepest appreciation and readiness for continued work efforts with our neighbour Venezuela. This is a continued step to advance the development of youth and sports in the country.”
Ambassador Argote noted that baseball is a well-liked sport in Belize. Proclaiming themselves as giants in the game, the Venezuelan Ambassador shared his desire to send experts to train Belizeans in the sport of baseball.
It was noted that Venezuela also has a ministry dedicated to youth and sports. The possibility of a virtual meeting between the ministers of each country was discussed. While Venezuela does not have a ministry dedicated to e-governance, the Ambassador shared his interest in lending support where they can. A signing of a memorandum of understanding for future collaborations was proposed.
Minister Bernard and H.E. Argote hope to have a friendly football game with the Belize Jaguars versus the Venezuela national under-20 football team when the COVID-19 restrictions are lifted.
