With municipal elections 21 days away, political parties are preparing for one critical day before electorates head to the polls: Nomination Day. The nomination of candidates for a new town council in San Pedro Town will take place on Monday, February 15th, between 10AM and 4PM.
According to a document issued by Returning Officer Martin Alegria, every candidate shall be proposed by two other persons whose names appear on the Register of Electors from San Pedro. They are to deliver to the Returning Officer written consent to be so nominated. Another important detail is that nomination applications must be accompanied by $25.
Both the People’s United Party and the United Democratic Party have announced their full slates. They have been engaging islanders in different forms ahead of the March 3rd municipal elections. However, the aspirants to make the new local town administration do not become an official candidate until Nomination Day.
