Every year, the San Pedro Lions Club celebrate their anniversary with a formal dinner, installing a new Board of Directors and live entertainment. Due to the current COVID-19 restrictions, this year’s plans changed, and instead, on Friday, October 23rd, the Club celebrated its 45th anniversary by distributing face masks and refreshments on Barrier Reef Drive.
Members of the island club stood on the street and handed out masks and refreshments to every person walking or driving by. They shared with The San Pedro Sun that they want to help in any way possible to continue fighting the deadly disease that is daily claiming thousands of lives worldwide.
One way of preventing the spread of COVID-19 is by properly wearing face masks; thus, they decided to distribute masks and encouraged every islander to use them to avoid further infections.
The activity was deemed a success, and the Club is now back on the drawing table, working on new ideas/projects to continue benefiting the island community.
President and new Board of Directors installed
As every year, a new president and board of directors are installed to manage the Club’s activities. Heading the board is newly elected President and well -known San Pedrana, Marina Kay.
She took over from out-going President Murlene (Mel) Spain) and is honoured to have the opportunity, vowing to continue the Lions Club mission to serve the community. Kay added they are always looking for new members, and as an added incentive, they are offering free registration until December.
The other board members for the period 2020-2021 include Flora Ancona as Vice President, Fatima Graniel – Secretary, and Abel Guerrero- Treasurer. Directors are Shelly Huber, Pedro Salazar, Francisco Verde, Baldemar Graniel, and Manuelita Marin.
The San Pedro Sun congratulates the new team at the San Pedro Lions Club and looks forward to being a part of their future community projects. The San Pedro Lions Club was founded in 1975; it has contributed immensely to La Isla Bonita’s development.
