The San Pedro Lions Club joined its international partners and observed World Service Day on Saturday, October 10th, by providing a Bar-B-Que lunch to public servants. These included frontline members of the local police department, fire department, and medical personnel of the Otto Rodriguez San Pedro Polyclinic II.
According to members from the San Pedro Lions Club, every year, they contribute to the community with similar events as Lions Club International celebrates World Service Day. The annual event usually takes place on October 8th, but in San Pedro Town, it was more convenient to host it on Saturday. This year they decided to honor the efforts of police officers, firefighters, and medical personnel, who continue to lead the battle against the current COVID-19. At 10AM the Lions fired up a grill outside the police station, and by midday, they delivered finger-licking chicken Bar-B-Que to these essential public servants.
In previous years, the San Pedro Lions Club has organized clean-ups, tree planting, refurbished playgrounds, and school lunch areas, among other community, works to observe World Service Day. The Club thanked their members who came out and helped and commended the work done by the frontline workers during these uncertain times.
The International Lions Organization was founded in 1917 by Chicago businessman Melvin Jones. Currently, the Lions Organization is 1.4 million members strong worldwide and has clubs in more than 200 countries.
