The San Pedro Roman Catholic Church on Ambergris Caye has taken it upon themselves to assist families affected by COVID-19 with essential food items.
The church has been doing so every Saturday through their facilities in the San Pablo Subdivision and at the Lions Den in the downtown area. This assistance has been possible thanks to many organizations that continue to donate towards the cause. One of them is the RE/MAX Real Estate Group and RE/MAX Belize, who recently gave 4,000lbs of rice and beans.
Early Saturday mornings, people line up to get their staples of rice and beans, where the church can help hundreds of families in each area. On Saturday, nearly 200 families received their provisions at their church building in the San Pablo area, while many more pounds of these food items were distributed in the downtown area. Organizers at the church said they have been doing this since March and hope to continue as long as they can.
The donors from the most recent donation feel more than glad to be able to reach out to those in need. Jason Turley, broker and owner of RE/MAX Real Estate Group, said, “We are trying to make it easier on the people who are struggling during this time and applaud everyone who is stepping up to help.”
Richie Tzib, an agent with RE/MAX Real Estate Group, also shared some remarks. “Ambergris Caye is a gorgeous island, but my fellow Belizeans are the ones who make Ambergris Caye a world-class tourist destination,” he said. Owner of RE/MAX Belize, the master franchise for the country of Belize, Will Mitchell added that his team has been boots on the ground in making sure supplies are being made available to those in need.
The Roman Catholic Church thanks to the donors who continue helping towards the primary goal of this cause: feeding people. They look forward to continuing to distribute provisions as long as they can.
