San Pedro bids farewell to NEMO Coordinator Jeromey Timrose Augustine-Cayetano

On Wednesday, February 24th, National Emergency Management Organization (NEMO) Coordinator Jeromey Timrose Augustine-Cayetano led the final Emergency Operation Committee (EOC) meeting here in San Pedro. After over seven years of service as island coordinator, Augustine-Cayetano will be moving on to tackle the position of Central Regional Coordinator and work out of Belize City. Members of the EOC along with San Pedro Town Council (SPTC) members and the media gathered at the SPTC conference room to discuss the transition and bid farewell to Augustine-Cayetano.
Opening the forum was Mayor Daniel Guerrero, who thanked Augustine-Cayetano for her hard work on the island. “This is the last meeting for Augustine-Cayetano. Today we say farewell to her and thank her for her services rendered to the community. Augustine-Cayetano always maintained good communication with the SPTC and excelled in the organization and operations of NEMO here on the island. I think under Augustine-Cayetano, we have achieved a lot and moved forward in ensuring that the island is prepared for disasters,” said Guerrero.
Augustine-Cayetano then explained how her transition will work. “This meeting was basically to say good bye, but we also have to establish how this transition will work,” said Augustine-Cayetano. She indicated that news of her move came in January 2016 when she was given a promotion. Augustine-Cayetano will take over the position of Central Regional Coordinator effective Tuesday, March 1st for the next two years. “Even though I am moving, all protocol is established to respond to an emergency properly. Over the about seven years I was here, we have accomplished and set into play a proper system of response which I believe will not falter when I’m no longer here. Let’s trust that everything will remain in place and if there is anything to build on, let us do so,” said Augustine-Cayetano.
Taking over Augustine-Cayetano’s responsibility while a new island coordinator is assigned, will be Frank Panton, who is well acquainted with the responsibilities of NEMO. “In terms of holding over, we do not know who will be taking over or when the person will come on board. So I have discussed with Panton, who agreed to be the interim until that person comes to San Pedro,” said Augustine-Cayetano. He can be contacted at 628-2542.
