On Eagles Wings Ministries to host Give Her Hope Inaugural Event

On Saturday, January 17th, On Eagles Wings Ministries (OEWM) will host their first event in San Pedro. The Give Her Hope Inaugural Event will be held at Ramon’s Village Resort and will serve as a means to introduce the OEWM to the San Pedro community. One of the hostesses for the event is none other than Miss San Pedro 2014-2015 Michelle Nuñez, Belize board member.
OEWM is a non-profit based out of Charlotte, North Carolina and was founded in 2008 by Emily Fitchpatrick. It is aimed at providing hope, empowerment and a brighter future for girls who have been or are at risk of being sexually exploited. In 2013, Fitchpatrick visited Ambergris Caye and quickly noticed the growing problem of crimes against children, especially sexual exploitation of young girls. As such, she decided to commence work here on the island and soon had recruited OEWM island members: Michelle Nuñez, Clive Welsh of Lighthouse Christian Radio Station and Eric Maas of Seek. Serve. Save. Ministries. “OEWM is about females that have been sexually exploited through the commercial sex industry. We strive for prevention, outreach, empowerment and aftercare of victims,” said Nuñez.
The event will feature a dinner, live auction, dinner and other fun activities. Aside from being an inaugural event, it will also serve as a fundraiser to get capital to construct a facility where OEWM can operate from and house victims of sexual exploitation. “I am definitely proud of myself for taking on this initiative. I can’t wait for OEWM to grow together with everyone here in Belize and see their aims fulfilled. I know that with the help and support of the community OEWM will be successful here on the island,” said Nuñez.
A $30 cover fee is being charged per person, and will include heavy hors d’oeuvres. The event will be help from 6Pm to 8PM. Those wanting to attend are asked to RSPV by Friday, January 9th with Michelle Nuñez at [email protected] or call 630-2560.
