On Monday December 22nd, Boxes of Joy took to the streets delivering a wave of smiles and laughter throughout town. Accompanied by Santa and his loaded sleigh (golfcart), the troop distributed toys and goodies to the children of Ambergris Caye. Organized by Shantelle Pascasio, the organization has seen much support and through this was able to provide toys to 675 children.
Led by a lighted float provided by Wings Store, Santa, the Candy Girls, and group members made stops at three locations around town, including Central Park, San Mateo and San Pedrito. As the group visited each community, the children gathered to receive their presents. With toys for everyone from infants to teens, all those along the way received goodies as the motorcade passed by.
Proceeds for the toy distribution came primarily from The Fashion Kids Candy Land Fashion Show which raised over $2,300 and took place earlier this month on December 11th. Wings Store also contributed significantly, as they donated additional toys to the initiative. Other sponsors and supporters included Belize Bank,Carlo & Ernie’s Runway Bar,Ina’s Creations, Man O War ,Divas & Dudes, Wings Store, Love Belize, Lynns Boutique ,Milos Center, Annies Pastries, The Palms Ocean Front Suits, Higher Levels Promotion ,Foreva Fancy,Top Notch, Pineapples Restaurant, Caramba Restaurant, Caprice Bar and Grill, Island Time, El Divino ,Styland , Belicolor, Caramba Restaurant, Juvines Bar, Rapidito Loans, DJ Smallz, The San Pedro Sun,Elito Arcea, Jay Jex.
With the support of the community, Boxes of Joy once again accomplished its mission of delivering presents to the children and communities in need. According to Pascasio, there are still a bit of toys left over from the toy distribution therefore the group has decided to spread the joy beyond the island by donating the left over toys to The Cornerstone Foundation in San Ignacio Town. The foundation is a non-profit humanitarian organization which also works to support the less fortunate.
Pascasio thanks everyone who assisted in making the third annual toy drive a success. With their help Boxes of Joy was able to share the spirit beyond San Pedro Town in 2014.
