SPHS Cultural Day-5On Tuesday November 18th, The San Pedro High School (SPHS) held their annual cultural day. Each year student exhibitions are highly anticipated by the community as they offer a day of fun and education for families and friends. Embracing the various cultures of Belize, each group was tasked with the responsibility of preparing a booth complete with cultural attire, information, food and a presentation of song or dance.SPHS Cultural Day-4
Hundreds of colorfully attired students filled the auditorium, as cultural music filled the air and visitors and teachers went from booth to booth to hear the mini presentations and sample ethnic dishes.SPHS Cultural Day-3
As an interactive way of teaching the students about the various cultures of Belize, Head of the Social Studies Department Sylvia Noralez, along with Ricardo Sedacy set out an interactive criteria to evaluate the students on the research they had done. SPHS Cultural Day-2The more information the students were able to functionally bring across, and the better quality of the cultural item put forward, the higher the grade each group would attain. Each booth presented its visitors with the opportunity to learn more about the cultural groups they represented. Colorful information boards displayed historical points on cultures such as the Creole, Mestizo, Maya, Garifuna, Chinese/ Taiwanese, Mennonite, East Indians and Central American regions among others. SPHS Cultural Day-1At the end of the day the groups attaining the highest marks in the junior categories (First Form and Second Form) were the Mestizo represented by class 1A, Hawaii represented by 2G and El Salvador represented by 2H.
