Representatives from the Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF) held a four day training seminar about beach soccer for island coaches and players. The seminar commenced on Thursday, October 30th and ended on Sunday, November 2nd with a beach soccer marathon. The seminar was aimed at preparing Belize to participate for the first time in upcoming Central American Football Union (UNCAF) Beach Soccer Tournament to be held in El Salvador from Wednesday, November 12th to Monday, November 17th.
The seminar entailed both theory and practical training and saw the participation of several football players, coaches and sports coordinators. According to member of the San Pedro Sports Committee (SPSC) Hector “Tito” Alamilla, the seminar is very beneficial to the growth of football in the island. 
“We are very happy to have been the recipients of this seminar. CONCACAF gave us an opportunity to learn more and develop our skills in football. It is very important that we continue the growth in sports because this island has many talented athletes that need resources in order to develop their skills. This will also help us boost the country’s sports teams so as to better represent Belize at international competitions,” said Alamilla.
In addition, San Pedro had been chosen to be the base of beach soccer in Belize. In the coming week, a national team will be selected to represent Belize at UNCAF Beach Soccer Tournament in aims of qualifying for the 2015 Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF) Beach Soccer Championships. 
“This is a great opportunity for Belize to show the talent it has. This might be the first time we will be participating in this tournament, but we plan on giving it our all and make Belize proud,” said Alamilla.
Belize is scheduled to open the tournament against El Salvador on Wednesday, November 12th. More information on this tournament will be announced in next week’s issue.
