On Monday, September 1st the San Pedro Police and the Caye Caulker Police received a much needed donation of motorcycle helmets. The donation was made by Gabriel “Gaby” Nuñez of Gaby’s Construction Company, and is aimed to increase the safety of the police officers while on patrol. The San Pedro Police received 12 helmets, while four were handed over to the Caye Caulker Police. On hand to receive the donation was Officer in Charge of the San Pedro Police Department Superintendent Luis Castellanos and Officer in Charge of the Caye Caulker Police Department Inspector Jesus Palma.
According to Nuñez, the donation was made after he noticed that both police departments had recently acquired motorcycles, but lacked proper helmets. Since it is the law that all persons driving a motorcycle, motorbike or an all-terrain vehicle (ATV), the helmets were urgently needed by both police departments. “I hope that this donation only serves to improve police response in keeping our two islands safe. As part of the community, I always want to try to assist the police when they need it,” said Nuñez.
Castellanos and Palma would like to thank Nuñez for his generous donation, and assure him that they will be put to good use.
