Beginning this Thursday (7/31), the Paradise Theater will be home to a new movie series called “THE BEST NEW MOVIES YOU’VE NEVER HEARD OF.” The series of screenings, which is being hosted by San Pedro resident and filmmaker Ben Popik, aims to share great new independent films with the movie lovers of San Pedro.
“There are a lot of really amazing movies being released right now,” said Popik. “But if a big Hollywood studio doesn’t spend millions of dollars marketing a movie, most people will never hear about it!”
The movie screenings, which Popik hopes will happen every other Thursday, will focus on sharing the best lesser-known movies of all genres.
“We have the best movie theater in the country right here on the island, and so many people don’t even know about it,” said Popik. “Hopefully this will be a great excuse for people to get out of the house, have a fun night with friends, and enjoy some really fantastic movies.”
The first movie in the series will be “Blue Ruin,” an American revenge thriller that was a tremendous success both critically and at the Sundance and Cannes film festivals.
