Football action is back to San Pedro with the official kickoff of the Island Cup Football Tournament. After several unfortunate delays, the tournament kicked off on Sunday, July 20th at the Ambergris Stadium. Eight teams entertained football fanatics in four thrilling matches, but at the end of the day it was Vince’s Warriors who took the lead of the tournament.
The first game was between San Pedro High School (SPHS) Football Team and Dorados. The young athletes from SPHS stood their ground, but in the end it was the Dorados that took the win in a close 2-1 point match. Next to take the field was Joker FC against recent tournament champions, Legends FC. It was a tight match which saw Legends FC pull a few tricks to win the match in a 3-2 point game.
In the third game, Ghetto Boys faced off against San Pedrito FC, and after a long grueling match, the Ghetto Boys pulled off a win with a 4-2 score. The final game of the day saw the Eleven Pirates facing off against Vince’s Strikers. The game was an easy win for Vince’s Warriors, who took the victory with 3-0 score.
Team rankings after the first set of games are as follows: Vince’s Warriors in 1st, Ghetto Boys in 2nd, Dorados in 3rd, Legends FC in 4th, Joker FC in 5th, SPHS in 6th, SanPedrito FC in 7th and Eleven Pirates in 7th. The next round of games will be played on Sunday, July 27th, and game schedule is as follows: Catrachos versus San Pedrito FC, SPHS versus Legends FC, Dorados versus Eleven Pirates and Joker FC versus Ghetto Boys.
