The San Pedro Public Library is hosting a summer program to educate children on the importance of water conservation. The program started on Monday, July 21st with a group of 25 children participating. The program will run through Friday, August 1st.
Throughout the program, children will learn about the importance of saving water, the availability of water, the water cycle and the necessity of water to living organisms. They will also enjoy watching fun videos, do arts and crafts, and play educational games. At the end of each week’s lessons, the children will be questioned on what they have learned and receive prizes for answering correctly. According to head librarian Iracela Acosta the program aims to educate children and promote the conservation of our Belizean waters while providing in a fun summer activity.
“Children will understand how important water really is, especially to us in San Pedro as we do live on an island and are surrounded by water. We want to encourage the children to take care of the water by not polluting it and saving as much potable water as they can,” said Acosta.
In addition of the program, the San Pedro Public Library is also announcing that they now have Spanish novels! The novels were part of a donation made to the library on Saturday, June 7th by Lisset Penalner. The donation included 21 Danielle Steel novels in Spanish, three Isabel Allende novels, two children’s books, one children essay, two paper fiction novels, five cook books, and 11 adult non-fiction novels. Interestedreaders can visit the library from Monday to Friday from 9AM to 6PM and on Saturdays 9AM to 1PM.
