The San Pedro Junior College (SPJC) held its 13th Commencement Exercise on Saturday July 12th at the Rafael Angel Nunez Auditorium. During the graduation ceremony, 28 students received Associate’s Degrees in three different areas of study. Pascual Pacheco took top honors in the 2014 graduating class and was the Valedictorian.
The Salutatorian address was delivered by Honor Roll student (and The San Pedro Sun staff reporter) Janelle Cowo, one of the six that graduated with an Associate’s Degree in Business Administration, Majoring in Accounting. Following Cowo’s warm remarks, Guest Speaker Dr. Vincent Palacio who is the Dean for the Faculty of Social Science at the University of Belize addressed the students.
Dr. Palacio took his opportunity to encourage the students to aspire for more, sharing important values in life that will take them through life, and listing tools that can prepare them to be productive and contributing citizens of Belize. Palacio also acknowledged the efforts of the SPJC for bringing the Bachelor Program in Tourism Management to the island, something that gives the students an avenue to continue with their education.
The Valedictory Address was them delivered by Pascual Pacheco. He highlighted the countless nights of dedication, having to depend on help from his colleagues and the efforts it takes to earn an education. Pacheco encouraged his fellow graduates to dream big, and to follow through with them.
Following all the speeches, the students were serenaded with a song entitled “On Top of the World” interpreted by Marthalicia Vasquez. Congratulations to all graduates of the SPJC class of 2014.
