Letter to the Editor: San Pedro Police

Share

Dear Editor:
I would like to express sincere appreciation to the San Pedro Police that work so tirelessly protecting our island.
They make so many calls for all types of help and recently they went above and beyond their duties this past week, and before our call for help was even made.
During the wee hours of Wednesday morning Corporal Young, Constable Martinez, Constable Wade & Constable Ramirez were passing by our facilities when they noticed a small fire had started on the exterior of one of our wooden buildings; a building with a thatch roof that was filled with peacefully, sleeping guests.
They noticed it as they were passing in their police vehicle.
Thankfully they stopped and acted swiftly and decisively to extinguish this small fire that was certainly on its way to becoming a larger, more devastating fire.
They used their fire extinguisher and extinguished it by also, intensively kicking sand at it. Our security guard soon joined them in their efforts, with the Firemen and Fire truck en route. Ultimately, the fire was extinguished by the time help arrived thanks to these alert, quick thinking people.
The fire department, security boss and management made their way to the scene and our guests were efficiently moved out of harm’s way. The damages to the interior and exterior were assessed and thankfully, they were minimal and the guests remained unharmed.
This letter is not only to thank the Police for their efforts that night but to also recognize their dedication and service to our community. We would like to take this opportunity to encourage each and every island resident to remember and to recognize that our Police often go above and beyond their respective duties to help this island stay safe and all too often, those efforts are unrecognized.
I have not figured any other way to help repay them for their actions that night other than to express our heartfelt thanks and to provide another offering to help them with the completion of their new police barracks.
This past week has reinforced to us just how important they are to our island and how proud we are of them!
Join us in showing them just how much we appreciate them by helping to finish their much deserved new barracks and from us personally – A great big THANK YOU!
/s/
A grateful citizen
