The renovation of the Boca del Rio Park is now complete thanks to the generous donation of Don Listwin of Canary Cove. Supervised by Gil Nunez, the park renovation involved the construction of four gazebo style palapas, each with its own picnic table, a new and complete playground set, the painting of the basketball court, installation of basketball nets and the planting of several flowers and shrubs.
According to Mayor Daniel Guerrero, this is part of a bigger plan from the San Pedro Town Council (SPTC) to provide better recreational spaces for residents. “We believe that people need a place where they can go as a family, a place that the children can play safely. That is what we have created here at the Boca del Rio Park, a place for the whole family to have fun and enjoy the beach,” said Guerrero.
The SPTC has also limited access of the park to pedestrians only; this was done as a safety measure for the younger children. “When golf carts were driven in the park, children couldn’t play freely, because of the fear parents had of an accident happening. Now, with the renovation completed, we have blocked the entrance to golf carts. This will also prevent erosion of the beach from the constant trafficking of golf carts. In the future we will be installing a fence around the park to make it even more secure for families,” stated Guerrero.
Residents are asked to use the park responsibly and to avoid damaging or littering the park. The park is for the people and thus should be taken care of by the people. The San Pedro Town Council would like to extend a big thanks to Canary Cove for their unending support of the island’s beautification projects.
