The San Pedro High School (SPHS) male softball team won the third annual San Pedro Softball Cup. The games, hosted by The San Pedro Town Council (SPTC), were held at the Ambergris Stadium on Saturday April 13th and Sunday, April 14th. Participating in the tournament were San Pedro High School, St. John’s College and Belmopan Comprehensive High School.
In the first game played on Saturday April 13th, SPHS faced Belmopan Comprehensive; SPHS took the lead with a 10-0 win. Unfortunately SPHS fell short in the second game of the day against St. John’s College in a 3-7 point game.
In the third game of the day, St. John’s College faced against Belmopan Comprehensive. The game ended in a tight 9-8 win for St. John’s College. SPHS delivered a sweeping win in the last game of the day against Belmopan Comprehensive. Belmopan Comprehensive boys put on a struggle but it was effortless as the game ended in a 8-1 win for SPHS.
With a good night of sleep, the teams were ready for the final day of the tournament. The first game held on Sunday April 14th was a matchup between SPHS and St. John’s College. SPHS brought their A-game, delivering an impressive 12-0 win. The second game of the day was between St. Johns College and Belmopan Comprehensive. It was a tight game that ended in a 3-2 point win for St. John’s College.
At the end of the tournament SPHS took first place with three games won and one loss and St. John’s College took second also with three games won and one loss. Konrad Gonzalez from SPHS won the Most Valuable Player award, “most wins” award and “most strikeout” award. Mariano Guerrero took the “most homeruns” award, Alex Roache received the “batting champion” award and Damian Pollard took the “most runs batted in” award. All three boys are from SPHS. The award for “best outfield “went to Kris Majarrez from St. John’s College. The “best infield” award went to Raheem Hendy also from St. John’s College.
