A resident of San Pedro Town remains hospitalized after he sustained head and body injuries during a fight. He has been identified as Thomas Young of an unknown address in San Pedro Town. The incident occurred shortly after 8AM on Thursday, July 19th on Glitter Street in the San Pedrito Area. According to police, 33-year-old Comroy Campbell of San Pedro Town reported to police that while on Glitter Street, he was approached by two individuals on a red golf cart. The driver of the cart, later identified as Thomas Young, came off the cart and launched an attack on Campbell with a four by four piece of wood. Campbell explained to police that Young swung the wood at him but he was able to dodge the blow and ran into his yard.
The report continues that it appears that Young pursued Campbell into his yard and hit him. Campbell told police that when the wood fell out of Young’s hand, he (Campbell) got a hold of it. Campbell stated to police that he hit Young several times in the upper part of his body and head in self-defense. It was at that point that Young’s companion, 28 year old Ajay Martinez entered into Campbell’s yard with another piece of wood, hitting him and causing injuries to the head and back. Campbell maintains that he managed to escape and hide inside his home until police arrived.
Young was then picked up and rushed to the Ambergris Hope Clinic in a semi-conscious state.
According to Dr. Daniel Gonzalez, Young was in a critical condition with injuries to his right hand, back, and signs of blunt trauma to the head. Young was airlifted to Belize City and taken to Belize Health Care Partners where he remains in stable condition and is suffering from internal bleeding to the head. Campbell on the other hand was taken to the Dr. Otto Rodriguez San Pedro PolyClinic IIÂ Â where his injuries were classified as wounding. He received a large cut to the head and abrasions to his back and was treated and released.
Police have arrested and charged Martinez for wounding. Campbell has not been charged for the injuries against Young since their investigation into the incident is still ongoing.
