The San Pedro Chapter of the Belize Red Cross (BRC) held its first major fundraiser on Sunday, March 25th at the Legend’s Burger House. Commencing at noon and going through 7PM, the fundraiser was a huge success and raised $4,310.
According to organizer and Red Cross representative for San Pedro, Laurie Norton, over 150 people came out throughout the day to support the cause. Â Activities included; raffles, 50-50 draws, Legend’s “King Kong” burger eating challenge, Chinese auction and the hoola-hoop contest among others. There were also lots to eat and drink.
Belize Red Cross would like to extend a special thanks to Fido’s Bar and Grill and Palapa Bar and Grill for cash donations as well as prize donations. Extra special thanks go to Emma, Jordan, Spencer, Kathy and Kim at Legends Burger House for organizing and working extremely hard and the band donated all of their tips. Nancy Scott ran the 50/50 draws and Bob Utsman ran the Chinese auction.
During the fundraiser, visitors Deb and Dan Swanson of the Wisconsin, USA Red Cross presented a check for $273.54 US to the San Pedro chapter of the BRC. The money was raised in Wisconsin by the TJ Walker Middle School Students, in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin.
The highlight of the day was the King Kong burger challenge. Stepping up to the plate was Wade the Gringo, Hayden, Michael, Nabhor and Claudia. It was a close competition with Wade being the first to gobble up the eight patty, cheese and bacon burger tower. Hayden came in at a very close second place.

Fido’s Bar and Grill along with Asian Garden Day Spa both signed on to become Corporate Members of the Belize Red Cross with Fido’s staff signing up to have Red Cross offer them a first aid training course.
The organizers wish to thank everyone who came out to support this very worthy cause, especially Evlyn from the BRC head office. The funds raised have been placed in the Belize Red Cross account and will be used for starting up programs for the San Pedro branch with the first being first aid trainings.
