Diamante – a development belonging to locals Lisa and Miguel Guerrero, has been in the works for over ten years. The huge sign erected on the beachfront property where well known BC’s Bar is located, raised eyebrows and concerns to some residents. The San Pedro Sun did some investigating into the matter to find out exactly what is going on.
The San Pedro Sun spoke with Mrs. Lisa Guerrero, developer of Diamante, who informed us,
“There have been four-storey buildings in the town core for years. I know a couple years back, the Town Board decided that they were going to allow four storey buildings evenly.”
Construction on the project is not scheduled to commence anytime soon. Lisa stated, “We don’t have any plans right now to start building. We have to do pre-construction sales before we can get started.” Lisa went on to state,
“The comment that I do want to make to people in town, is that all over San Pedro they’re building four story buildings, north and south of the Island. There are very few locals involved in the development side of these projects. You can count us on one hand or less. What people don’t realize is that, the Town Core has the highest property value based on per square foot and if people in town don’t realize the cost and need for making allowances for people that want to develop in town – San Pedro is going to become a ‘Has Been’ – everything is going to move to the north of us.”
The San Pedro Sun spoke with Councilor Severo Guerrero who is also the Acting Chair of the Ambergris Caye Building Committee who confirmed that there are no regulations banning four storey structures on any part of the island, lest the building exceeds 52 feet.
