Christmas is the season for giving and this year, businesses, organizations and churches on the island shared their blessings with the less fortunate on the island.
Krista and friends present 420 gifts to students at Holy Cross
On Thursday morning, December 15th, Krista Gromonti, volunteer at Holy Cross along with Santa Claus and helpers distributed 420 personalized gifts to the students of Holy Cross. The gifts were secured through a toy drive which was held earlier this month at Wayo’s, during which Krista collected $1000 and 75 toys. She explained that she travelled to Chetumal City in Mexico, spent the entire money in gift purchasing; and after three nights of wrapping with the assistance of many friends, the gifts were personalized and ready for distribution.
DFC gives to San Mateo
On Saturday December 17th, the Development Finance Corporation chose San Mateo as their neighborhood to give back to in 2011. DFC staffers joined efforts in presenting bags of food, grocery items and other items to many families in Ambergris Caye’s poorest neighborhood. From the recently finished streets through London bridges, the generous givers went from door to door delivering their warmly welcomed gifts.
Living Word Church gives back to the Community
On Sunday December 18th, the spirit of giving continued when the Living Word Church took to the streets with a truck carrying large speakers, blasting out Christmas carols. It was followed by a parade of colorfully decorated golf carts, sharing out gifts and good tidings across San Pedro.
The group visited the San Juan Area, Town Core and Sanpedrito where they gave out gifts to all the very appreciative children. Along the way, Pastor Ian and senior church members made special stops at the San Pedro Fire Station and the San Pedro Police department. At each stop the group delivered a cake and sodas, as a token of appreciation for the tremendous work these public servants provide so selflessly to the community of San Pedro.
ScotiaBank  toy drive benefits  San Mateo
Scotia Bank held its annual toy drive, earlier this year and also chose to visit San Mateo as their community to bring tidings of joy to. On Tuesday afternoon, December 20th, management and staff of Scotia Bank dressed in their Santa hats and colorfully decorated vehicles drove across the bridge to the core of San Mateo. Once there, they issued gifts to welcoming boys and girls of the area.
