World AIDS Day observed in San Pedro

Share

World AIDS Day is observed on December 1st every year. In an effort to continue raising awareness of the AIDS pandemic caused by the spread of HIV infection, government and health officials observe the day in a variety of ways that focus on topics related to HIV/AIDS. The San Pedro AIDS Commission is a group of enthusiastic and hard working people who have committed their time and efforts to bring awareness to San Pedro, on this deadly disease. SPAC organized a walk in honor of those who are bravely fighting the disease, in memory of those who have lost the battle, and in solidarity of the families and friends who have lost loved ones to the pandemic.

Led by the drum corps from Isla Bonita Elementary School, the SPAC held its annual AIDS walk through the principal streets of San Pedro. With the presence of Miss San Pedro Yakarelis Hernandez, Miss Chiquitita Gabriella Knox, Mister Belize representative Joshi Alexander and Miss Lions Shantelle Pascascio, a group of about 100 joined in the poignant twilight walk.

Afterwards, a fundraiser dinner and charity auction was held at Crave Restaurant & Lounge. With a large number of prizes being raffled or auctioned, dinner was a great event that brought together the community in supporting a worthy cause. A huge thank you to Kate Corrigan of Crave Restaurant for working hard alongside the SPAC to bring together the dinner, and to everyone who attended and donated to this worthy event.
