Press Release – Vision Inspired by the People – November 30, 2011 – In today’s international arena, Belize stands unashamed as the poster boy for corruption on the North and Central American mainland. This sorry distinction is a result of our government’s 8 years refusal to sign the UN Anti-Corruption Convention. Both PUP and UDP administrations have chosen to mislead our nation into rejecting this UN Convention which is embraced by 90 percent of the world’s nations.
Vision Inspired by the People calls on Prime Minister Barrow and this UDP administration to ACT Against Corruption Today and sign the United Nations Convention on Corruption now. VIP reminds Prime Minister Barrow of his 2008 campaign promise to go to all lengths to fight corruption including partnering with the international community in investigating any money laundering or illegal acts by politicians and bringing those involved in any unlawful acts to justice. The signing and ratifying of the convention against corruption is a necessary step in fighting corruption, curbing crime and attracting much needed foreign investment and aid to Belize.
VIP calls on all Belizeans to join the International Community in the observance of International Anti-Corruption Day on December 9th 2011. The United Nations theme for 2011 is ACT Against Corruption Today.
The VIP assures all Belizean that we stand in total Solidarity with the United Nations and Transparency International in the fight against corruption. The VIP further pledges, that if given the opportunity and responsibility to SERVE in government, we shall break the CORRUPT CULTURE that now engulfs our governance and replace it with SERVICE.
