Under the theme “Education empowers: Creating change, nurturing minds embracing the future”, the various schools from San Pedro converged at the Angel Nuñez Auditorium on Wednesday May 11th to showcase the culmination of months’ of preparations.
This year’s Festival of Arts saw the participation of students from St. Peter’s Elementary School (SPES), Holy Cross Anglican School (HCAS), San Pedro RC School (SPRCS), New Horizon (NH), Isla Bonita Elementary School (IBES) and Ambergris Caye Elementary School (ACES).
The presentation started around 7:00pm with the opening prayer by Mr. Miguel Hernandez, followed by the national anthem and a welcome by Principal of SPRCS, Mrs. Roxani Kay. Following this, the adjudicators were introduced by Ms. Candy Jones Armstrong, Education officer for San Pedro.Judging the presentations were; Mr. Manuel Ancona, Dr. Floyd Jackson, Dr. Janet Vucinich, along with tabulator, Annie Cima. Presentations were judged as either Gold or Silver presentations based on their final scores. The main categories for the presentations were Drama, Music, Dance, and Skits and plays. Each category carried a different scoring system.
At the end of the night Gold Presentation status were awarded to the following: Ambergris Caye Elementary for their presentation of the “Waka Waka” dance, New Horizon for their Patomime: “My Redeemer”, San Pedro R.C. School, for their dance presentation of “Spice”.
Silver Presentation statuses were awarded to the following: Dance by SPRCS “Balahue”, Pantomime by SPRCS “The Big Enormous Turnip”, Dance by St. Peter’s Elementary, “Tribute to the Belizean Ethnicity”, Poem by HCAS “Mrs. Belizean Princess”, Dance by SPRCS “Mayan Chiefs and Maidens”, Choral performance by HCAS “The Splendor of a King”, Skit/Play by NH, “El Vive”, Instrumental solo by IBES, Choral Speech by NH “In Jesus Christ we praise”, Vocal solo by SPRCS “Somebody”, Instrumental Ensemble by NH, “See Ye First”, Dance by Isla Bonita , “Waka Waka”.Gold presentations will move on to participate in the Belize District National Festival of Arts scheduled for the week of May 30th to June 3, 2011.
