Students benefit from ACES’s Scholarship Program

Share

Ambergris Caye Elementary School (ACES) – known for the very high quality of education it provides to its students, is in the second year of its Scholarship Program through sponsorship. With the pilot project starting for the school year 2010-2011 and the first student being sponsored by Carlos and Suyapa Alejos of Suya Tours, the program is an ongoing success.

The first student to benefit from this program was Rhiana Tillett who will be enrolled in her second year at ACES under the continued sponsorship of Carlos and Suya Alejos. The Scholarship Program was devised “as a way of giving back to the community,” stated Mrs. Ana Ico of ACES. The idea was conceived during ACES’s period of transition from its previous location. The board of directors had been discussing the possibility of starting the scholarship program since June of 2010. This year, through the kind sponsorship of Steve and Lori Pagelow, participating sponsors, Ms. Alexis Lawrence, currently enrolled at Little Angels pre-school will be enrolled in the Infant 1 Class at ACES for the school year 2011-2012.

Both students attending ACES through the Sponsorship program will be covered through the six years duration of their attendance at ACES and are strongly encouraged to maintain their class average of 85% or over. The program is opened yearly to students at the various pre school level as well as students already enrolled at ACES, that have maintained a percentage of 85 or over through the school year. The number of students accepted into this program is based solely on the amount of sponsors received. ACES hopes to grant bright students – who would otherwise not be able to attend ACES – that opportunity through this scholarship program.

The board members, friends and the business community are encouraged to contribute to a stronger San Pedro through furthering education – by participating in this Sponsorship Program.ACES wishes to extend a special thanks to Carlos and Suyapa Alejos of SUYA Tours, Steve and Lori Pagelow, board members the committee and everyone who continues to support the efforts of ACES in San Pedro.Businesses or individuals wishing to contribute to ACES sponsorship program are welcome to contact ACES at 226-2226.
