The crew at Blue Water Grill (BWG) is no stranger to rolling up its sleeves and getting to work, and during these difficult times on the island, they are doing just that! Volunteers, staff, and owners are busy in the kitchen, preparing hot meals and grocery bags to deliver to hundreds of people in need. Primarily focused on seniors, the hot meals are delivered every Thursday, and the menu varies weekly.
These meals are possible, thanks to the generous donations made online via their website. BWG has been at the forefront of community service for years, raising funds for various causes and matching contributions to improve the lives of many on the island. During the unexpected economic downturn caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, they turned their efforts to feeding those in need when they lost their livelihoods.
On Tuesday, July 7th, the BWG crew, and volunteers gathered at 2PM to assemble and deliver 50 grocery bags. Included in the bags were one whole chicken, two pounds each of rice, flour, sugar and beans, eggs, toilet paper, coffee, evaporated milk, condensed milk, canned sausage, soda biscuit, potted meat, cooking oil, and bread. Volunteers helped prepare the bags then made their way to deliver the supplies.
Thursdays involve preparing a hot, fresh meal, and the amount varies depending on the donations. The plan often includes around 150 meals and ranges from BBQ to warm tortillas, pirix pak, caprichos, tamales, etc.
Owners Kelly and Mukul Kanabar extend thanks to the generous donors and their staff, as well as the helpful volunteers for doing their part to help the community.
