After the tourism industry came to a grinding halt on the island, the labour force of tour operators such as tour guides, boat captains, deck and office personnel found themselves without a job. Over the past weeks, they have been doing their best to make ends meet with the support of the community and loved ones. But on Wednesday, April 29th, the San Pedro Tour Operators Association (SPTOA) contributed 150 packages of groceries to them in an effort to assist them.
Chairman of the SPTOA, Roberto Canul shared that the project aims to take care of their employees, who contribute to their businesses. He pointed out that everyone in the tourism industry has and continues to be affected by the COVID-19 pandemic and in times like this everybody must come together to help each other.
According to the SPTOA, the program is scheduled to continue for the next three months with weekly groceries handed out to their employees to try better their difficulties. The association thanks its members, who are contributing financially to the effort. They also thank all those who have contributed to their GoFundMe account as the association tries to raise the much-needed funds to continue the program.
Anyone able and interested in donating to this worthy cause are asked to do so by visiting the GoFundMe page at https://www.gofundme.com/f/help-feed-our-guides.
