With the constantly changing nature of the COVID-19 situation globally and locally, we remain vigilant to respond effectively in these challenging times. At Belize Sugar Industries Ltd. (BSI), the safety and health of our employees, customers, partners, stakeholders, and community are at the heart of all we do. We are taking every precaution to protect all stakeholders, employees and work environment to prevent its spread.
Given the importance of the northern sugar industry to the social and economic well-being of the country, the BSI Tower Hill Sugar Mill feels an additional layer of responsibility to continue receiving sugarcane to produce sugar and supply electricity to the National Grid.
At all our locations, we are taking every precaution to limit contact, enhance cleaning and screen personnel to ensure proper health and well-being for all. We also encourage all individuals to safeguard their wellbeing at home and in compliance with the Government of Belize (GOB) and Ministry of Health (MOH) guidelines such as proper hygiene and social distancing protocols.
In response to the current situation, our BSI team remains steadfast and committed to safeguarding stakeholders and working with cane cutters, cane farmers and their associations and GOB.
We also recognize the stress and anxiety that can manifest during uncertain times like these.
We know that people may be worried and are seeking reassurance that food will be available to them. To this end, we are committed to ensuring continued supply of sugar and meeting orders for all our customers, including supermarkets, bakers and manufacturers.
For families remaining at home in the coming weeks, we hope to help provide a sense of normalcy. While a routine activity such as sweetening your coffee or tea can lift your spirits, we also encourage baking to entertain, teach and bring smiles to children who are adapting to the unique challenge of being out of school.
Together with the community, we must all do our part as we unite to face this unprecedented global crisis. Please be safe, take care of yourselves and your families and adhere to recommendations from the relevant authorities.
