Thousands of shoppers from Belize City and surrounding areas witnessed the grand opening of the new Mirab Department Store on the Philip Goldson Highway on Wednesday, October 10th. The new store, which was relocated from the Fort Street Area of Belize City, is considered Belize’s first high-end shopping center, offering 100,000 plus square feet of space that accommodates some new additions to its different departments, including the upcoming Ashley Furniture Home Store. Management said that shoppers can now obtain anything they need, at reasonable prices, while eliminating the need to travel across the border or shop online.
At 9AM the doors officially opened and eager customers walked down the red carpet where they were photographed and guided to view a special presentation prepared just for them. Each customer received a Mirab gift bag upon purchasing any of the great doorbuster deals. With each purchase, customers entered a raffle to win two American Airline tickets to fly to the United States of America, the Caribbean or Canada. All purchases made from Thursday, October 11th to Saturday, October 13th awarded customers coupons. Those can be redeemed at the Traveller’s booth at a temporary food court outside of Mirab on Saturday until 7PM. Other activities included getting a Mirab temporary tattoo, coloring on a giant mural and tasty bites and beverages.
This innovative commercial project in the country is the brainchild of the Bou-Nahra family. “We are thrilled to have launched our new store today with an improved brand and image,” said Michael Bou-Nahra. “We are excited that so many of our customers took the time out of a busy weekday to show appreciation for what we’ve done for them. This is our gift to Belize and Belizeans”.
The store features two floors, both beautifully designed, and a line of goods ranging from tourism products to footwear, home goods, toys, fitness equipment, a baby section, a larger pet area, a candy store, clothing, and other accessories. The store also counts with escalators and elevators for easy access to the second floor. Outside of the facilities, there is ample space for parking, including bicycle racks, a bus stop, and security at all times.
Dionne Chamberlain, Public Relations Representative for Mirab, says the services and products in the store are of the best quality and at competitive prices. “We have also added in some new higher end because we realize that some people may want brands like Nicole, Miller and Pioneer Woman. But customers will not feel any pinch; anybody can get a gift in here starting from $3 all the way up, depending on what they want.” She mentioned that the store is another source of jobs for Belizeans, while at the same time providing customers with a top shopping center and ensuring the money stays in the country. Chamberlain added that when their Ashley Store opens, it will employ more Belizeans and offer customers another level of shopping for their home.
The Ashley Furniture Home Store will open on the third floor of the building next month. Meanwhile, Mirab advises that their furniture gallery on the George Price Highway remains open to display the alternative brands their customers are familiar with.
Mirab management thanks everyone who attended the grand opening and continue supporting them. They will open until 7PM to accommodate those who work during the day. The store also announced that in two weeks-time they will switch into the Christmas season with spectacular decorations and seasonal products.
