The San Pedro House of Culture (SPHC), under the auspices of The National Institute of Culture and History, has launched a new exhibition titled “Art Show and Reception.” The exhibition is the art work of Katrina Samuels Ancona, an artist originally from Greenwich Village in New York who has been on the island for over two decades. The art collection includes seventeen pieces of beautiful paintings on canvas, fish plates and colorful gold vases. It was officially launched on December 22nd just before the Christmas holidays.
According to Ancona, the beauty of Belize has influenced her work, along with her Christian life on which she reflects in most of her work. At the SPHC, the different artistic creations vary in forms, from acrylic on canvas and murals, to furniture and work on three-dimensional objects. Some of the paintings featured were themed with names such as Belizean Leaves, Purification, Sleeper, Coral Garden, The Colors of You, Roaring like a Lion and even the Simplicity. Most of the pieces are for sale at a special price.
Everyone is invited to visit the exhibit during normal working hours at the SPHC. This is an opportunity to appreciate Ancona’s art work, which is thought provoking and serves to relate the many sentiments and challenges of life.
