The family of Luis Abner Tun is seeking the public’s assistance to raise much-needed funds to cover his medical bills as he recovers from an armed attack that nearly took his life. On July 10th, while inside the Clumsy Restaurant and Bar in the San Mateo area on the island, Tun was shot twice in the abdomen by an unknown shooter. He survived the attack, but his condition is critical, and he will need spinal surgery. Anyone able to donate can message or call 633-9594. The family will be conducting a salpicon sale on Saturday, August 14th, along with a dollar drive on Barrier Reef Drive across from the San Pedrano grocery store.
On July 11th, Tun was transported to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital in Belize City, where he underwent surgery. A second urology surgery was necessary hours after the first surgery. The following day, a neurologist evaluated Tun after he had difficulty moving his lower limbs. A radiological study revealed Tun had a bullet in his back and a second one lodged inside his vertebrate, causing damage to the nerve roots.
Tun was transported to Merida, Mexico, where he underwent another surgery. Following the surgery, he was still unable to walk. He is now scheduled for spinal surgery next month. Afterward, Tun will require physical therapy to start walking again. “This has been very unfortunate for us. We would appreciate any help we can get during our fundraiser,” the family said.
Police have not provided any updates on the investigation to apprehend Tun’s shooter. According to the official police report, Tun was behind the bar counter when a male person dressed in full black entered the bar, walked in his direction, and fired shots, causing the injuries. The male person then ran outside and jumped on a motorcycle driven by another male person and made good his escape.
