On her way back from Secret Beach, a tourist was involved in a traffic accident on Wednesday, July 7th, sustaining extensive head trauma. The female patient was assisted by Rickilee Response and Rescue (Triple R). She was stabilized and then transported to Belize City via Belize Emergency Response Team’s air ambulance. On Thursday, July 8th, she was flown to the United States (US) for further specialized treatment.
According to reports, the patient was traveling with her husband after spending time at the popular beach when she fell off a golf cart. Triple R’s ambulance and its team, Phillip ‘Billy’ Leslie, Vanessa Parham, Emmerson Michael, and Enrique Alpuche, were quickly dispatched and transported the injured tourist to Ambergris Hope Clinic, where she was stabilized. Her condition was deemed critical due to severe head injuries. The report indicates that the victim also suffered deep lacerations to her head and was bleeding from the ears.
The cause of the accident is suspected to be due to drinking and driving.
The tourist’s current condition has not improved, and further specialized medical services are needed due to the extreme head trauma. The patient has since been transported to the US for advanced treatment.
Drivers are reminded to abide by the traffic regulations and to drive safely at all times to avoid accidents. To report a traffic accident, you can call the San Pedro Traffic Department at 226-2936 or visit their office located below the SPTC building on Barrier Reef Drive.
